Quickie Dvar Torah
In our Parsha it says “When a man from among you brings a sacrifice to the Lord'”. The ibn Ezra interpreted that the term “among you [מכם ] comes to emphasize that the sacrifice should be “from you – from your personal wealth, and not from ill-gotten gain, as it is written: For I am the Lord, Who loves justice, hates robbery in a burnt offering (Isaiah 61: 8). A worthy sacrifice must come from the person himself. A person must forfeit something belonging to him for the sacrifice to be effective.
The Torah is suggesting that the person who wants to fight the corona virus, and להתקרב get nearer to the end of the pandemic, must sacrifice “among you-מכם”, that is, give up something of personal importance. Now we are required to give up our most cherished freedom of movement to restore health and return to good and healthy days. That sacrifice is crucial today.
