KEHILAT TORAT HAYIM HERZLIYA
Kehilat Torat Hayim was founded in 1978. It now numbers more than 120 adults (from families and single members) and has a diverse population of native-born Israelis and former residents of Europe, North and South America, South Africa, Asia and Australia.
The congregation is led by Rabbi Ary Glikin from Argentina who made Aliya in May, 2008. He is an active member of the Rabbinical Assembly of Israel. The Kehila is affiliated with the Masorti Movement (the Conservative Movement in Israel) and actively participates in its programs. Members of the Kehila join in the planning annually for the winter study day of the Central Region of the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism in Israel and for its national study day in June.
The congregation is fully egalitarian. Members participate actively and generously in tefilot as Torah readers and Schlichai Tzibur. The schedule contains weekly Shabbat services each Friday evening and Shabbat morning. There is a youth service one Shabbat morning each month and a Kabbalat Shabbat service monthly conducted in the style of Carlebach. Seudot Shabbat are scheduled through the year for different members of the Kehila (Noar, Young Adult, Adult). All Chagim are part of the tefilot schedule.
The Kehila has an active social action agenda and it is recognized annually by the City of Herzliya for its dedication and commitment to their Food Bank program.
Adult education classes, evening lectures, commemorations, special Tefilot and other cultural programs including day trips are part of the activity profile of the Kehila. Under the leadership of Rabbi Glikin, voluntary committees within the Kehila develop, plan and sponsor special programming.
With many years of interest and anticipation, the Kehila is now in the process of planning and carrying through the construction of a synagogue on Rehov Yehuda HaNassi on a plot of land donated by the Herzliya municipality. It is anticipated that within a short period of time, the actual construction of the new facility will begin. The building will contain a Bet Tefila to serve for weekly Shabbatot and Chagim with room for High Holidays, a library and classrooms, a caterer’s kitchen, lobby, terrace and offices.
The Kehila is led by three co-presidents with additional officers and is supported by an Executive Board. A weekly online newsletter, HAMEVASSER (bilingual) is available to all kehila members on Thursdays.
