Purim in the Community: Around one hundred and twenty adults and children attended our synagogue to hear the reading of the Scroll of Esther. Lily Boksman, Michal Roth, Shlomit Peled, Yiftach Shapir, Michal Peled and Rabbi Ary Glikin each read portions of the scroll. It was particularly enjoyable to see new faces in our community. After the reading, everybody was invited to a Kiddush given by Anna Greenspan and Berta Sharon in honor of the festival. In a special activity dedicated to Purim, the children, together with their parents prepared food gifts (mishlochai manot). It was exhilarating to see them drawing, and adorning the gifts, to fulfill the central mitzvah of Purim in such a creative manner. The next day, a delegation representing the community visited Loewenstein Hospital Rehabilitation Center in Raanana, to hand out gifts to the children undergoing treatment. From there, we continued on to our next port of call, the Levzeller Home for the mentally handicapped. The home’s principal, Motti Arbel, welcomed us warmly and showed us around. We had the opportunity to meet and chat with the residents and hand out more food gifts. Our final visit took us to the L.O Association for the combat of violence against women, founded by Ruth Rasnic. The association’s manager welcomed us and we discussed the hardship of the women who stay at the center, and the ways to deal with these issues. The entire experience was exciting, and without doubt we learned a lot. The participants of the delegation included Smadar and Berta Sharon, Inga David, Barbara Slater, Yiftach Shapir and Rabbi Ary Glikin. We would like to thank all the members who brought foodstuffs to fulfill the mitzvah of “gifts for the poor.” Jack Ziv-El delivered the food to the municipality of Herzeliya. פורים בקהילה: כ - 120 ילדים ומבוגרים הגיעו לבית הכנסת לשמוע את מגילת אסתר. לילי בוקסמן, מיכל רוט, שלומית פלד, יפתח שפיר, מיכל פלד והרב ארי גליקין קראו פרקים מהמגילה. היה מאוד משמח לראות פנים חדשות בקהילה. לאחר הקריאה כולם הוזמנו לקידוש שניתן על ידי ברטה שרון ואנה גרינשפן לכבוד החג. כפעילות מיוחדת לחג, הילדים יחד עם המשפחות הכינו משלוחי מנות. היה נפלא לראות אותם מציירים ומקשטים את המתנות ובדרך זו הילדים והמבוגרים קיימו מצווה מרכזית של החג בצורה כה יצירתית. למחרת, משלחת מטעם הקהילה הגיעה לבית החולים לווינשטיין ברעננה לחלק את משלוחי המנות בין הילדים המטופלים במקום. לאחר הביקור בבית החולים, הגענו למעון לבצלר, שמטפל באנשים עם פיגור שכלי. קיבל אותנו מנהל המעון מוטי ארבל בחום רב וערך לנו סיור במעון. הייתה לנו את ההזדמנות להכיר ולשוחח עם הדיירים ולמסור גם להם את המתנות. תחנה אחרונה הייתה בעמותת ל.א. (לחימה באלימות נגד נשים) שנוסדה על ידי רות רזניק (פרס ישראל). מנהלת העמותה קיבלה אותנו ושוחחה איתנו על הקשיים של הנשים המגיעות אליהם והדרכים להתמודד עם אותם המצבים. כל החוויה הייתה מאוד מרגשת וללא ספק למדנו המון. בין המשתתפים במשלחת היו סמדר וברטה שרון, אינגה דויד, ברברה סלייטר, יפתח שפיר והרב ארי גליקין. אנחנו מודים לכל החברים שהביאו אוכל לנזקקים לקיים מצוות "מתנות לאביונים". האוכל נמסר לערייה על ידי ג'ק זיו-אל. בקישור הבא אתם תוכלו לצפות בתמונות חג הפורים על ידי יפתח שפיר. http://picasaweb.google.com/YiftahShapir/KehilatToratHayyimPurim2010?feat=email

Did you know ?

This week we will take out two scrolls of the law from the Holy Ark. The first scroll is for the weekly Torah portion, and the second scroll is for Parashat Parah (Bemidbar, 19-1 – 22). This portion is read on the Shabbat following Purim, and deals with process of purification by the sacrifice of a red cow. This portion is read in this period as part of the preparation for the coming Pesach festival. At the time when the Temple stood, each person had to guard his purity, for only if he was pure, could he participate in the Pesach sacrifice.

הידעת ?

השבוע נוציא מארון הקודש שני ספרי תורה. הראשון לפרשת השבוע והשני לקריאת פרשת פרה (במדבר י"ט א' – כ"ב). קטע זה נקרא בשבת שלאחר פורים ועוסק על תהליך הטהרות על ידי הקרבת פרה אדומה. פרשה זו נקראת בתקופה זו כחלק מההכנות לחג הפסח המתקרב. בזמן שבית המקדש היה קיים על כל איש לשמור על טהרתו, כי רק בהיותו טהור היה יכול לקחת חלק מקרבן הפסח.
